January 1977 Prep For South Upper Deck

(Photos Uploaded By Alan Cutts)
Today’s photos are from January of 1977 and a towing company moving a few cars that were parked behind the South Stands.

Normally, January would be a time when students could park behind the South Lower Deck. But this is no ordinary January.

Clemson was in preparation for building the South Upper Deck and some students found out that they had to move their cars or they would get towed so that the heavy machinery used in the construction could be moved in.

What I like about these pictures is you can get a good look at what the South Lower Deck looked like before the construction of the South Upper Deck.

It was also at this time that Clemson replaced the cedar wood benches inside of Memorial Stadium with the aluminum that is still there today.

(Note: If you have old pictures dating before 1990 that are Clemson related and you would like to share them, send them to me in an email with as much information about the picture as you can give and I will use it for a future “Clemson Historic Picture Of The Day”).
